E33 | Saaphyri — Flavor of Love 2, Charm School, & I Love Money 2 (part 1 of 2)
Flavor of Love: cast interviews

1h 18m
Saaphyri found out about Flavor of Love auditions by answering a Craigslist ad. She was a fugitive from the law while filming. She got into a fight within the first twenty minutes of being in the house. And then she won Charm School. Saaphyri's story is truly unlike any other "Of Love" cast member's story.
In this episode of Talk of Love, Saaphyri sits down with Lacey for one of the most jaw-dropping, laugh-out-loud, genuinely moving conversations in the entire podcast. A fan favorite from the moment she appeared on screen, Saaphyri has one of the most unexpected and compelling journeys of anyone who came out of the "Of Love" universe.
In this episode of Talk of Love, Lacey and Saaphyri discuss:
• How Saaphyri found out about Flavor of Love auditions — a Craigslist ad asking "Would you like to date a rapper?" and her immediate answer of "I've been dating bums, I might as well date a rapper"
• The Flavor of Love pilot — what it was, how it worked, what the format was like, and the wild revelation that the full season cast was specifically molded after the pilot girls
• How Saaphyri tried to sneak back in and audition for Flavor of Love season 2 — and got caught by executive producer Matt Odgers, on the spot
• Being recruited as the official "snitch" for Flavor of Love season 2 — and what actually happened with that plan
• The H-Town flower fight — why Flav giving Saaphyri a whole bouquet triggered everything, why H-Town threw the first punch (with the flowers), and why Saaphyri is still right that she got a raw deal on the ejection
• The secret that Saaphyri was keeping the entire time she was filming: she was supposed to be in jail, was on the run from the law, and was genuinely praying the producers wouldn't call the police after the fight with H-Town
• The iconic Lip Chap moment — why she offered H-Town lip balm immediately after the fight, and what she was actually thinking in that moment
• Her legal situation: a corrupt uncle who stole her family's inheritance and made false reports to police, to get her out of the way — leading to a jail sentence that she didn't turn herself in for
• Filming I Love Money while still a fugitive — and getting arrested at the airport on the way back to the U.S.
• Spending 22 months in jail — and ending up in the same facility as Charles Manson's girls (yes, really)
• Winning Charm School season 1 with Mo'Nique — and why her season's $50,000 prize was half what every other Charm School winners received
• What she did with the Charm School winnings
• The drinking sessions every night on Charm School, that took place inside a closet with Becky Buckwild and other girls from Charm School
• Her friendship with Becky Buckwild — how it's held up through arguments and life changes
• The New York confessional room confrontation on I Love Money 2 — and how Saaphyri stayed completely unbothered while New York tried everything to provoke her ("I'm not gonna mess up my bag for no hags!")
• Her Developmental Foundation — a nonprofit focused on finding alternative treatments for people with intellectual disabilities, inspired by her daughter
• Lip Chap, still going strong
(This is part 1 of 2 interviews with Saaphyri. Check out episode 44 of Talk of Love to see more of her.)
